  About HARO

HARO Tapas y Pintxos will be the first Spanish restaurant known to the Lower West Side of Chicago, better known as the original “Little Italy.” HARO compliments this very Italian neighborhood with some “Spanish flavor.” You could consider HARO to be like any other Spanish restaurant, but on the contrary it will be the pioneer in setting new trends for all Spanish restaurants. Cuisines at HARO are creations from the popular Basque region of Spain. Our cuisines are rich in flavor, freshness, and quality.

A little lesson for those who don’t know…

Tapas are appetizers served on small plates that are shared amongst a group of people. The concept of sharing plates creates a communal experience and it is a much more fun and healthy way of eating. These interesting delicacies can be seen as miniature works of art. Pintxos like the Spanish tapas, are similar to a small open sandwich; each sized to give you one or two bites and a variety of tastes. Traditionally in Spain, pintxos are served during lunch time or evening and are laid all across a bar, where people can pick and choose their favorites

Tapas, Pintxos, Spanish Wine, and Mixed Drinks

Be prepared to experience the true tapas of Spain such as Jamon Serrano , imported directly from Spain, Gambas Al Ajillo, Pincho de Solomillo , Chorizo a la Rioja to name a few. A variety of Basque pintxos such as Chatka, Piquillo de Bonito, Gilda, Champiñones, and Chorizo will all be a pleasure to indulge in. If you can not pick a few, don’t worry, just order our popular pintxo platter, which gives the best of all the pintxos that HARO has to offer. HARO has a fine selection of strictly Spanish Wines, Cavas, and Txololinas. If you are not a big wine drinker, HARO offers mixed drinks like Kalimotxo, Agua de Sevilla, and Corazon Flamenco to choose from.

When you ask for sangria at HARO, it will be served in a porron , instead of a typical pitcher. A porron is a Spanish glass wine container with a narrow, pointed spout that shoots a stream of wine directly into a drinker's mouth. The concept is similar to that of the goatskin bota bag from Spain. The use of a porron takes skill and good guzzling ability to keep up with the steady stream of wine. It is a challenge that every one has to try at least once in their lives.

Ambiance and Architecture

The atmosphere is filled with the culture of Spain. HARO’s unique architecture creates a relaxing ambiance that is reminiscent of rustic and modern Spain. The signature feature of HARO is a large arch that starts behind the bar and curves over the top of the bar. This arch represents half of a wine barrel, which is very significant in Spanish wineries.

The inspiration of HARO for owner, Javier Haro, was influenced by honoring his last name which is also the capitol of a region in Spain known as La Rioja. This region and its capital are well known for its production and export of many fine Spanish wines, which are reflected in HARO’s wine selection.
